The University of Wisconsin Colleges Sheboygan campus invites applications for the position of Associate Information Processing Consultant (working title – Instructional Technologist).  The University of Wisconsin Colleges is composed of 13 campuses across the state that provide the first two years of a liberal arts general education and prepares students for transfer to baccalaureate granting campuses. The UW-Sheboygan campus is located in eastern Wisconsin about an hour north of the Milwaukee metro area; with easy access to Chicago and Green Bay. The campus is nestled on 70 acres of rolling wooded hills just east of I-43 with easy access to the downtown Sheboygan area and Lake Michigan. UW-Sheboygan is a commuter campus with an enrollment of about 700, including full- and part-time students with a mix of traditional and returning adult students. Recent campus projects included equipping classrooms with updated technology and the opening of a new state-of-the-art science facility in 2004. Position Summary/Responsibilities:  Under the direction of the Assistant Campus Dean for Administrative Services, the Associate Information Processing Consultant acts as the campus Instructional Technologist and the Distance Education Coordinator.  As Instructional Technologist, this staff member performs functions that directly affect instructors’ and students’ ability to effectively use learning technologies.  The Instructional Technologist should have an understanding of instructional design fundamentals, instructional software and hardware, common applications, electronic learning resources, and possess knowledge of how these technologies and applications can integrate with curriculum.  Further, the Instructional Technologist must possess strong customer-service skills and be comfortable training in large groups as well as in one-on-one settings.  In addition, the Instructional Technologist should be able to diagnose technical issues and quickly determine possible causes and potential solutions for technical problems. 

 

As Instructional Technologist and particularly as Distance Education Coordinator, this person may be required to work extended hours in order to meet the needs of students in the evening and distance education programs.  Further, as Distance Education Coordinator, this position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of distance education delivery as well as technical support for these classes.

 

This position is Academic Staff in large part because of its involvement with academic programs and curricular decision-making.  This position also provides information technology support and provides backup to many of the network administrator functions.  This position works closely with the campus Network Administrator, the Information Technology Interns and other student workers, the Assistant Campus Dean for Administrative Services, as well as peer counterparts on the other twelve UW Colleges campuses in addition to staff in the central office in Madison.  A full position description is available upon request.

 

Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years of related experience required; familiarity with instructional technologies, audio/visual systems, basic computing and networking skills, as well as experience in technical support.  Experience with telephone system management preferred, with experience in higher education desirable. Candidates should have excellent customer service skills and willingness and demonstrated ability to learn new technologies.  Candidates must be self-motivated, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and work well with faculty, staff and students.
