*          Scores for MAT 108 are purely advisory.  Catalog pre-requisites for MAT 108 should be used for placement into MAT 108.

(#)       Placement in MAT 110.  Student will then need to take MAT 113 before taking MAT 221.

(##)    Placement in MAT 110.  Student needs MAT 113 before taking MAT 221 and may take MAT 113 concurrently with MAT 110 or may take MAT 124 in place of both courses.

In April 2000, The UW Math Placement Exam began reporting scores under a revised system that includes new labels and standardized scores. All students receive scores for E‑ALG (elementary algebra), I-ALG (intermediate algebra), C-ALG (college algebra) and TRIG (Trigonometry). Scores in each category range from 150 to 850, the mean score is 500, and the standard deviation is 100.

Please note that the scores reported for tests taken before April 2000 are not comparable to the placement chart shown here (see the old placement test cutscores).

All students should consult with their local Student Services office for help in determining the best math placement based on test scores and math background. Refer to the UW Colleges Catalog for course descriptions.

Technical details on the exam scoring system are available from the UW Center for Placement Testing at http://www.wisc.edu/exams.
