What is developmental
math?
Developmental Mathematics in the University
of Wisconsin Colleges includes all non-degree credit courses in mathematics.
The primary goal of the developmental math courses is to provide students with
the skills they will need for success in the degree credit algebra courses
(beginning with Mat 105). Current course offerings are Basic Math, Elementary
Algebra, and Topics in Geometry. Course offerings and will vary depending on
semester and campuses. Check your local campus timetable for up to date course
information.

Basic Math Math

Designed for students with minimum algebra background or who have been away from mathematics for several years. Subject areas to be covered include arithmetic of whole numbers, fraction and decimals, ratios and percents, and basic algebraic concepts. Prepares the student for Elementary Algebra. This course is offered through a contractual arrangement with the local WTCS institution as Mat 092. This course is offered by the campus TRIO/minority/disadvantaged program as Mat 094. |

Elementary Algebra Math

Intended for students with little or no previous algebra. Topics include the real number system and operations with real numbers and algebraic expressions, linear equations and inequalities, polynomials, factoring, and introduction to quadratic equations. This course is offered through a contractual arrangement with the local WTCS institution as Mat 095. This course is offered by the campus TRIO/minority/disadvantaged program as Mat 097. |

Topics in Geometry Math

Designed for students who have not had high school geometry. Includes methods of proof, properties of simple plane figures, congruence, and similarity.
