Assessment Plan for Mat 09x

I intend to collect assessment information for Mat 09x through an online assessment test this semester. Students will be able to take the exam by visiting the Blackboard site for the MAT 09x Online Learning Lab. Instructors will soon be invited to participate by asking students to take the online exam (this could be a useful diagnostic review for their own final exam, or even part of the final exam grade). In addition to instructions, I will make a paper version available to instructors to facilitate student participation where necessary.

A report on previous assessment data is available in my 2003 Program Report (http://rock.uwc.edu/galexand/dev_data/Report2003.doc).

2002-2004 Campus Visits

Since the coordinator position expectations have been revised, I am expecting to continue campus visits on the rate of 3 campuses per semester over the next two years. I am in the midst of visiting Waukesha, Washington and Manitowoc over the next couple weeks; Fox Valley, Marinette, and Richland in Fall 2003; and Barron, Marathon and Sheboygan in Spring 2004.

Academic.com and the Online Learning Lab

The Office of Distance Education is currently reviewing the usage of Academic.com to determine whether or not we will purchase a license for next year.  Pat Fellows has requested from the Math Department (via e-mail) to help in the decision making process. She is especially interested in hearing from those of you who either direct students to the site for remediation, or have links to modules built into your Blackboard course site. Usage statistics were sent out by e-mail attachments. If you did not get this and would like to take a look, send me an e-mail and I will forward it to you next week.

Whether or not we continue the use of Academic.com, I plan to keep the Online Learning Lab open for our own students in the Blackboard site. We may want to add more of our own materials here to help students. I would appreciate anything you wish to share in this endeavor. The Online Learning Lab is open to all MAT 09x students in the UW Colleges, but access is restricted to this group (and instructors – let me know if you would like in), so you know your course supplements will reach only this targeted audience of our own students.
