ELEMENTASTIC SCIENCE CAMP, July 15-19

Elementastic Science Camp students meet their teacher each day in the UW-S Main Building Foyer 10 minutes prior to class to be escorted to their classroom. After class, students will be returned to this area for pick-up.

Students may bring a snack and beverage each day for break.

What do you know about polymers, plastics, forensic science, light, shadows and colors, water, magnetism and electricity, and motion? Chances are after this fantastic science camp your student will know more than you! Designed for highly motivated children interested in discovering a different part of the world of science, students will take part in a broad range of safe, hands-on experiments. Each day they will explore one science topic in depth that has been carefully chosen to add to and intensify the science curriculum of area school districts. Materials and special take home projects are included.

In addition, a unique science show will be performed by participating students for friends and family on Friday at 11 a.m. Please plan to attend this exciting event in the UW-Sheboygan Commons!

Section A: 10 a.m.-Noon (Grades 1-2)

COLLEGE FOR KIDS, July 29–August 2

College for Kids students meet their teacher each day in the UW-S Fine Arts Building (Theater) Lobby 10 minutes prior to class to be escorted to their classroom. After class, students will be returned to this area for pick-up.

Students may bring a snack and beverage each day for break.

 

American Girl: History, Games and Crafts ALL NEW ACTIVITIES!
History, games and crafts with your American Girl! Each day we will dive into the world of one of the beloved Historic American Girl Dolls. We will read stories and play games from their time in history. We will also make a craft or two each day. On Friday we will celebrate with an art party based on Saige, American Girl of the Year. You don’t need to own an American Girl Doll, but if you have one or another special doll, she is welcome to come along with you each day to class!
Section A: 8-10 a.m. (Grades 1-3)
Section B: 10 a.m.-Noon (Grades 4-6)

NEW! Creative Dramatics
Join us for a musical theatre adventure as we recreate a familiar story in a new way. Learn some basic dramatic techniques, dramatize a familiar story and produce a short play for invited quests during the final session on Friday.

Section A: 8-10 a.m. (Grades 1-2)
Section B: 10 a.m.-Noon (Grades 1-2)
Fee: $45/section

E2 Engineering and Economics
Students participate in different challenges using a variety of every-day materials. These activities teach the understanding of construction costs and engineering design.

Section A: 8-10 a.m. (Grades 4-6)
Section B: 10-Noon (Grades 4-6)

NEW! Fun with Photos
Learn the basics of taking great photos and using creative software to transform your photos into unique artwork. Plus learn fun ways to display your photos! Students will need to bring a working camera (digital preferred) and a selection of their favorite pictures printed. An ipod or other electronic device with a camera is acceptable.

Section B only: 10 a.m.-Noon (Grades 4-6)

Join us for a week filled with fun crafts, exciting games and an inside camp-out! Plus decorate designer cupcakes and create yummy snacks and delicious smoothies, because… kids just want to have fun!

Medieval Madness!
Did you know that the world record for launching a pumpkin with a catapult is 2,862 feet? Learn the science behind the “fling” by building a marshmallow catapult, a ping pong ball trebuchet, and more. Learn the concepts behind the famous ” Punkin Chunkin” contest and Medieval Siege engine designs while participating in a harmless “war” with your friends. The class will wrap up with a distance “flinging” competition. Find out if you have what it takes to win!

Seriously Silly Science
Pops, bangs, bubbling, smoking, exploding, spinning, flying, FUN! Science is all around us. This class is focused on having fun while exploring the wonderful world of science in silly ways. Professor Binder will take you on a journey through the scientific world. With all NEW experiments in physics, chemistry, and biology that you can even do at home. A Mad Scientist Journal will help you remember all your fun experiences!

Session A only: 8-10 a.m. (Grades 2-6)
Fee: $45/section

NEW! WSCS TV Video Camp
If you are interested in the world of television and video production, this camp is for you! You will learn about camcorders, recording, audio, lighting, editing, cameras, position, studio sets and more. You will also produce a video scavenger hunt!

Session A: 8-10 a.m. (Grades 4-6)
Section B: 10 a.m.-Noon (Grades 4-6)

SPECIAL CAMPS

NEW! Amazing Robotics Challenge June 17–20 and August 5–8
Join us for this fun but intense robotics program. You will build a mobile robot using interchangeable parts, wirelessly controlled by a personal computer. Flashing lights, moving motors, wheels, levers and arms at your command. Sensors help the robot find its way. Innovation and creativity are required. Styling and originality are rewarded. We will use the popular and easy to master Scratch programming language... plus you’ll find out what an Ardunio is. You will learn about electronics, physics, computer programming - and maybe even see how what you learn in math class helps you build a robot. Note: Students should bring a lunch, snack and beverage each day. This camp is limited to 20 students.

 

 

NEW! Excellent Engineering July 29–August 2
A hands-on interactive and fun exploration of simple engineering ideas. Designed for younger students, this class will combine some simple science and interesting design concepts in a ton of hands-on engaging challenges. Students will have fun learning and interacting with others as they practice thinking like a scientist or engineer.

Time: 1-4 p.m. (Grades 1-3)

Folk Tales Alive! July 29–August 2
Do you like to hear stories? Do you like to tell stories? How would you like to act out stories on stage? Great, come and join the fun as we bring folk tales to life! Learn to move, act and speak on stage as we develop our characters, work as a team and prepare our show. We will present our performance of Folk Tales during the last hour of our last class, so invite your family and friends!

Time: 1-4 p.m. (Grades 3-5)
Fee: $69
Instructor: Rick Ponzio, professional performer, director and educator, UW-Sheboygan and UW-Manitowoc.
