Alternative Careers in Teaching (act!) Program

Classroom PhotoAlternative Careers in Teaching is an exciting teacher licensure program specifically designed for working professionals with a bachelors degree and at least five years of work experience who desire a career teaching secondary level (middle and /or high school) mathematics or science.

act! is a cooperative program between the UW Colleges and UW Oshkosh. Successful candidates are licensed by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction through the University of Wisconsin -Oshkosh College of Education and Human Services.

Why does act! exist?

To address the shortage of qualified and certified mathematics and science teachers in Wisconsin and throughout the country.

Your Timeline to Teacher Certification

Because the act! program is individually tailored to each participant, progress to certification is determined partially by the candidate’s desired completion time and partially by the amount of work the candidate must accomplish to qualify for licensure. Expected completion time will vary from as short as 18 months to three years.
