Learn Spanish at UW-Sheboygan
Spanish is the second most common language spoken in homes in the United States. Today there are approximately 35.5 million people in the United States who speak Spanish. If you have always wanted to learn Spanish, now is the time! Register now the UW-Sheboygan Center for Engagement Learning Foreign Language Spanish 1, Spanish 2, or Conversational Spanish courses.
Conversational Spanish: Conversational Spanish is facilitated by native Spanish speaker José Araujo. José is a Program Coordinator for the Hispanic-American Information Center at Partners for Community Development, Inc. This course is for those who have completed all four of the non-credit Spanish classes through UW-Sheboygan CEL. Outside students may join at this level if they have studied the Spanish language, including grammar tenses. This total immersion course is designed to simulate conversation and expand vocabulary. Students will use the text, “Advanced Spanish Grammar” as a self-teaching guide to reinforce grammar structures previously presented in the introductory Spanish courses. The course will take place on Tuesdays, January 8-March 12 (10 weeks) from 5:30-7:00 p.m. in Room 3102 of the Main Building. A fee of $140 plus $30 for the “Advanced Spanish Grammar,” textbook is required for the course.
Spanish 1: Join instructor Susan Allison, owner/operator of Sin Tronteras Translation and Foreign Language Program Coordinator for UW-Sheboygan CEL Department, in this introduction course. Spanish 1 is for the beginning student who has never studied the language before and serves as a refresher course for the student wanting basic review. The course focuses on the first half of an introductory Spanish workbook that serves as a prelude to the remaining Spanish courses. The workbook “Asi Escribimos,” is required and will be distributed at the first class session. Payment for the workbook and answer key should be sent with your registration. The course will take place on Wednesdays, February 6-April 24 (12 weeks) from 5:30-8:00 p.m. in Room 5002 of the Learning Resources. A fee of $168 plus $30 for the “Asi Escribimos,” textbook is required for the course.
Spanish 2: Instructor Susan Allison facilitates this continuation of the Spanish 1 course. Spanish 2 allows for progression within the Spanish series. This class is geared toward the beginning Spanish student and will include a basic review of material covered in the first course and then focuses on completing the workbook “Asi Escribimos” and beginning the workbook “Ya Escribimos.” Emphasis will continue to be on grammar in the present tense, conversation and listening comprehension. The course will take place on Tuesdays, January 8-March 12 (10 weeks) from 5:30-8:00 p.m. in Room 5002 of the Learning Resources. A fee of $140 plus $30 for each of the textbooks “Asi Escribimos” and “Ya Escribimos.” Textbooks are required for the course.
