2011 Inside Out Exhibit to open July 23 at UW-Sheboygan
Indoor and outdoor sculptures on display this summer

Area art lovers are invited to visit the scenic University of Wisconsin-Sheboygan campus this summer and fall for the sixth UW-Sheboygan Inside Out Sculpture Exhibition. The biennial exhibit, which aims to awaken greater interest in sculpture among Sheboygan area residents and visitors, will open to the public on July 23 and be on display through October 10.

This year’s Inside Out exhibition features work from professional artists from across southeastern Wisconsin. The collection of both indoor and outdoor pieces offers a broad cross-section of some of the finest sculpture currently being produced by professional artists, art teachers and their students around this area of the state, Dan Smith, UW-Sheboygan Fine Arts Gallery director.

“The exhibit is a nice mix of experience artists and art and graduate students from across the state. The mediums include porcelain, stone, forged metal, wood and mixed media. A few pieces are shown outside, but many are in or near the Fine Arts Gallery,” Smith said. “Visitors are welcome to walk the campus and see many of the permanent sculptures,” Smith said.

This year’s exhibiting artists include Rick Ponzio, Niki Johnson, Micah Zayner, Ashley Buczkiewicz, Jeff Noska and Jon Kays.

An opening reception will be held Saturday, July 23 from 2-4 p.m. in the Fine Arts Gallery. The public is invited to join the artists as they circulate and discuss their work. Guests will have the opportunity to meet many of the artists and view the sculptures both inside the Gallery and on the campus grounds.

All indoor sculptures can be viewed inside the Fine Arts Gallery, located inside the Fine Arts Building, Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. and Fridays, 9 a.m.-6 p.m., while outdoor exhibits may be viewed across the campus during daylight hours.

A site map outlining the locations of the various outdoor sculptures will be available in the Fine Arts Building. UW-Sheboygan is on University Drive between Union and Indiana avenues. For easy access to the exhibit, please park in the East Parking Lot and access the Fine Arts Building. A wide selection of sculptures from Wisconsin artists are showcased in the 2011 University of Wisconsin-Sheboygan “Inside Outside” Invitational Sculpture Show.
