Fall workshops offered by Center for Engagement Learning

 

Herbal Series: Roots, Seeds, Berries, & More!

The UW-Sheboygan Center for Engagement Learning invites area residents hoping to learn more about herbs and the plants of the seasons to the Fall Herbal Series at UW-Sheboygan.

Herbalist Linda Conroy teaches this series that teaches about the history of herbs which promote healing of cuts, scrapes, and more. Throughout the series, participants will go on plant walks to identify seasonal plans and also make herbal preparations such as herbal beverages, cold and cough remedies and more. Participants will be able to take home some of these creations and recipes for the future.

“Fall Herbal Series” will be offered Wednesdays, October 13, 20, 27; and November 3 from 6-8:30 p.m. in Room 3107 of the UW-Sheboygan Main Building. A $68 fee is required in addition to a $10 supply fee paid on the first night of class.

QuickBooks workshop offered in October

The UW-Sheboygan Center for Engagement Learning invites area residents hoping to learn more about easy electronic accounting to learn more about the basics of QuickBooks.

Fay Hoogstra-Uraynar, a CPA and QuickBooks Pro Advisor, teaches this course on how to use QuickBooks for invoicing, bill payment, bank reconciliation, customers, vendors, employee information, payroll, financial reporting, and more. This class features hands-on computer instruction. A 150+ page manual is included. A prerequisite of Windows or working knowledge of the environment is required.

This series will be offered Thursday, October 14 from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (lunch on own) in Room 5001 in the UW-Sheboygan Learning Resources Building. A $169 fee is required.

Microsoft Excel course offered this fall

Cathy Lambries, who has a B.A. in Business Education and an M.A. in Education, and 34 years experience teaching computers and business classes will lead this UW-Sheboygan Center for Engagement Learning course that delves into the power of Microsoft Excel. You will learn how to enter and manipulate data, save and retrieve work, use formulas and functions, create charts, print spreadsheets, and much more. Students also will learn to calculate budgets and forecasts, manage lists of information, and produce graphs to summarize data.

This course is offered on Thursday and Friday, October 7 and 8 from 8:30 a.m.-noon in Room 5001 in the UW-Sheboygan Learning Resource Building. A $129 fee is required for this class. A prerequisite of Windows or working knowledge of MS Office 2007 and environment is required.

I Want a Website…Where Do I Begin?

Want to build your own web site? Then let the UW-Sheboygan Center for Engagement Learning help you achieve your goal! “I Want a Web site…Where Do I Begin” is a hands-on course offered to area residents this fall with instructor Ken Anderson, Information System Consultant and Developer and Webmaster.

This course is for those who are thinking about creating a web presence and wish to understand the basics of domain registration, developing and hosting a site. This class will begin with the process of choosing a domain name, followed by explaining various options for creating, and hosting a web site.

“I Want a Web Site” will be offered Wednesday, October 20 from 6-9 p.m. in Room 5001 in the UW-Sheboygan Learning Resource Center. A $49 fee is required, as well as a strong familiarity with web use, understanding what you wish for your web site to do, and have a desire to be personally involved in this process.

Herbal Wisdom for Women’s Health

Have you ever wondered about the potential benefits of natural herbs for your health? A new course, “Herbal Wisdom for Women’s Health” at the University of Wisconsin-Sheboygan this fall may answer some of your questions.

This course will explore various herbs and the many health benefits they can offer women for such conditions as menarche, menstrual cycles, pregnancy, nursing, and menopause.

Linda Conroy, a herbalist, teaches this course about the remedies herbs have for some of the common maladies of life being a woman. It will include an overview of western herbs supporting women’s health. This course focuses on nourishing the body and will feature the making of sample teas and infusions that can help support overall health, as well as crafting remedies for home use.

This course will be held on Tuesdays, October 12 and 19 from 6:30-9 p.m. in Room 3105 in the UW-Sheboygan Main Building. A $39 fee is required.

Tai Chi and Qigong

The UW-Sheboygan Center for Engagement Learning invites area residents hoping to learn more about Tai Chi, the ancient Chinese art of relaxation, healing, and self-defense to consider its “Tai Chi and Qigong” course this fall.

Fgalina Petrich, a certified Tai Chi and Qigong instructor with numerous certificates in several forms of Tai Chi, teaches this course. Tai Chi is practiced for stress reduction, energy enhancement, prevention of illness, improving concentration, stretching the mind and body, and slowing the effects of aging. Qigong is a series of techniques for human energy flow to recognize, utilize, circulate, and direct internal energy of the human body.

This course is offered Wednesdays, October 6, 13, 20, 27; November 3, 10, 17, 24 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in Room 2114 of the UW-Sheboygan Main Building. A $67 fee is required.

Reiki Level I: For Health Care Professionals… and Everyone Else

Learn more about stress reduction and deep relaxation in the UW-Sheboygan “Reiki Level I” course offered by the Center for Engagement Learning.

John Oestreicher, Reiki Instructor, teaches this course on Reiki, a practice currently performed in 54 hospitals and clinics through the U.S. This workshop is for individuals and professionals who wish to become Level I Reiki Practitioners. After this workshop, students are able to give a Reiki session to a client and are able to perform self-healing with a Level I Reiki Certificate.

This course will be offered on Saturday, October 9 from 7:30 a.m. -4:30 p.m. (lunch on own) in Room 2114 in the UW-Sheboygan Main Building. A $165 fee is required (as well as $20 for the training manual, Reiki: The Healing Touch (First & Second Degree Manual) by William Lee Rand).
