University of Wisconsin-Sheboygan

ACT Prep Course offered to area students

Area high school juniors and seniors are invited to the University of Wisconsin-Sheboygan for a series of ACT prep courses over the coming months.

The course, which is offered as a one-day program runs from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., is offered by the UW-Sheboygan Center for Engagement Learning Office. The first session will be held on November 20, 2010 on the UW-Sheboygan campus in the Brotz Science Building (Room 6001 – lower level). A short break and a lunch break will be offered during the day.
Other available prep course dates are January 22, 2011; March 19, 2011; and May 21, 2011. All classes will be held in the UW-Sheboygan Brotz Science Building, Room 6001.

These special preparatory courses will allow students to hone the skills they have learned in high school to do well on the ACT exam. Highly skilled instructors will offer insight into:
• Test-taking strategies;
• Math problem solving strategies (algebra, geometry and trigonometry);
• Proper English usage (rhetorical skills and mechanics); and
• Analysis and interpretation of scientific research summaries and conflicting hypotheses.

The science portion is taught by Jeff Anderson, a science teacher at Sheboygan South High School. Dale Robson of Random Lake High School will be helping students with their English skills. Allison Komaromy of Sheboygan North High School will work with students on their math problem-solving abilities.

The biggest help a preparatory course can offer students is an in-depth look at the layout and content of the exam. By knowing what topics may or may not be covered, students can study more efficiently, and, therefore, go into the test with more confidence.

Course fee for any workshop date is $69. Please register two weeks prior to the chosen test date. The UW-Sheboygan campus is located on University Drive, just off Taylor Drive between Indiana and Union avenues in Sheboygan.
