Students receive honors, awards at UW-S Honors Convocation

 

The University of Wisconsin-Sheboygan bestowed awards and honors on nearly 90 students during the college’s 2011 Honors Convocation ceremony on May 3. The ceremony, which featured scholarship and student recognition award winners, attracted more than 300 students, faculty, staff and guests to the UW-Sheboygan Fine Arts Theatre.

Besides student awards, guests also were treated to convocation speaker, UW-Sheboygan Chemistry Lecturer Dr. Karrie Rukamp, who shared her own personal experiences in college and encouraged students to never give up despite the challenges and roadblocks they may face on the path to success. In 2010, Dr. Rukamp was honored with the 2010 UW-Sheboygan Teaching Award for her commitment to student success.

Linda Lee was named the school’s 2011 Graduate of the Year for her passion for learning and commitment to academics and her fellow students, while Allison Haller received 2011 Valedictorian honors. Other students received recognitions awards from campus departments for their academic performance.

Additional students honored this year with scholarships and awards include those provided by the UW-Sheboygan Foundation and numerous local businesses, organizations and individual donors.
